These hook-backed Navy Jack Flag Patches are designed to reflect infrared light, helping units to identify friendly forces in the field at night. While night vision technology is incredibly effective at recognizing people and objects, many factors, including environmental conditions, available ambient light, and the confusion of combat work against the individual when trying to identify friend from foe. These patches appear extremely luminous when hit with IR light and viewed through NVG’s, immediately identifying someone as a team mate.
The Navy Jack Flag first flew on Continental Navy ships in 1775 and throughout the War of Independence. It has since been a symbol of American patriotism, heart, and determination.
