The first Night Vision Goggle designed and built in-house at TNVC, the  TNV/BNVG-M (Binocular Night Vision Goggle – Modular), also known as the “Artemis,” is an End-User Centric, ground-optimized, ruggedized Binocular Night Vision System. Named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, and the moon, the Artemis is a fixed bridge system with a hybrid 7075 aluminum bridge and high-strength polymer optical pods with a modular chassis and power supplies allowing multiple different mounting and power configurations.

One of the main design goals behind the Artemis was to create a simple, rugged, end-user focused ground goggle that was scalable and configurable for multiple users and multiple purposes with a strong focus on human interfaces and human engineering factors.

While the initial inspiration from the AN/AVS-6/9 ANVIS and F5050 (AN/PVS-23) goggles, the Artemis was ruggedized, updated, and upgraded, resulting in a completely new goggle design based on our experience as end-users and the advances that have been made to night vision goggle technology in the years since those systems were designed.

One of the primary features of the Artemis is the modular power supply, or MPS. The Modular Power Supply allows for multiple different configurations of the goggle and compatibility with multiple mount systems, this is especially important for organizations or units that use multiple different types of helmet and mount systems, as well as allowing the Artemis to be adaptable to other mounting configurations without altering the basic goggle itself.

The first two modular power supplies available will be an ANVIS-style ball-detent power supply, that uses aviation style mounts or mounts like the Wilcox GSGM and AB Night Vision STORM, as well as the on-board power BNVS or dovetail MPS.

The BNVS power supplies features both a compartment for an onboard CR123 battery providing over 25 hours of battery life, as well as a BNVD-style external power connector, allowing it to be used with external power supplies such as the L3Harris Cold Weather Battery Pack or CR123 Battery Power Supply for over 50 hours of battery life. Other power supply interfaces are also being developed.

By consolidating the power supply and controls into a modular assembly, the Artemis not only allows users to configure the goggle a way that best suits their needs, but also eliminates any extraneous mechanisms or controls on the goggle itself, like redundant battery compartments or power switches when utilizing powered mount interfaces.

The chassis system consists of the fixed bridge and optical pods containing the image intensifier tubes, as well as IPD adjustment mechanism, onboard IR illuminator, and the tilt adjustment mechanism for the ANVS power supply.

The Modular Power Supplies are user-configurable, and can be easily switched out by the end user utilizing a single Allen wrench and removing the four screws on either side of the MPS, and lifting out the power supply.

Both the chassis and modular power supplies are all individually serialized using MIL-STD-130 compliant IUID labels for inventory and batch tracking.

The initial variant of the Artemis will come standard with a low near IR reflectivity FDE Cerakote finish and is compatible with standard, MIL-SPEC PVS-14 style ground optimized optics as well as lightweight optical lens assemblies.

The Artemis was designed with extensive user feedback from current and former professional end users. The Artemis features a centrally located IR illuminator. The absence of a battery compartment in the usual position between the tubes allows the user a nearly unobstructed view between the tubes in transitional or mixed lighting conditions.

The chassis pivot and adjustment shelf bridge is machined aluminum, while the optical pod housings are made from high-strength machined polymer.

The IR illumination control is located on the left side of the bridge and protected by a raised and contoured fence, reducing the risk of accidental activation, while also making it easy to find and utilize in a deliberate way in the dark and while wearing gloves.

In the BNVS configuration, the power button is located in the rear of the battery compartment and also protected from accidental activation, while also placing it in a convenient location when used with push-button style dovetail helmet mounts.

Again, human engineering factors and user interface were a critical part of the design process, and the Artemis utilized HFE data compiled in the design of military-issued goggle systems like the AN/PVS-31, GPNVG, FGE, ANVIS, and others for adjustment ranges, eye relief, and other critical dimensions.

Even small considerations have been taken into account, including retention loops that are compatible with most retention and stabilization systems, including traditional hook-style bungees, carabiner clip style bungees and retention devices, shock cord, and others, and positioned in such a way to prevent kinking or twisting when attached.

The Artemis also features IPD adjustment markings, allowing users to set and record their IPD adjustments, ensuring accurate and repeatable adjustment, even for multiple users, allowing for perfect optical alignment, which can be important for professional users, as night vision optical lenses and image intensifier tubes are designed to provide the greatest clarity, image quality, and fidelity in the center of the image, hence the use of the “center resolution” metric.

The TNV/BNVG-M Artemis and covered under TNVC’s industry leading Lifetime Limited Warranty, and is available either as a complete system in either the ANVS or BNVS configuration, or as a stand-alone housing. Modular power supplies will also be available separately, and additional versions are in development and will be able to be developed as new products continue to be introduced to the market.

Nocorium NVG wraps are also available for the TNV/BNVG-M Artemis.

TNVC & Night Goggles, Inc. Limited Lifetime Warranty

TNVC, Inc. and Night Goggles, Inc. warrants this product for the lifetime of the product and guarantees this product to be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship under normal use, and transferable by the owner assuming that the product otherwise still falls within the scope of this warranty.  In the event that a defect covered by this warranty occurs TNVC, Inc. or Night Goggles, Inc., at its discretion, will either repair or replace the product.  Such action on the part of TNVC, Inc. or Night Goggles, Inc. shall be the full extent of the company’s liability, and the customer’s sole and exclusive remedy. This warranty applies to all TNV and NGI-branded Night Vision Device housing systems, and furthermore warrants that all Image Intensifier Tubes will be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship under normal use for a period of 10 years after the original date of purchase. This warranty does not cover:

  • Products that were used in other than normal and customary manner.
  • Products that were misused.
  • Products that were altered, modified, or repaired by the customer or a party other than TNVC, Inc.
  • Products that were discontinued by the manufacturer and either parts or replacement units are not available due to reasons beyond the control of TNVC, Inc.
  • Damage, defects, or failures resulting from use that would be construed by any reasonable person as normal and expected “wear and tear.”

TNVC, Inc. shall not be responsible for any defects or damage that in the company’s opinion, resulted from the mishandling, abuse, misuse, improper storage, or improper operation, including use in conjunction with equipment which is electrically or mechanically incompatible with or of inferior quality to the product, as well as failure to maintain the environmental conditions specified by the manufacturer.  This includes using rechargeable batteries, storing the product with batteries installed, or battery compartment corrosion due to faulty battery. Warranty claims falling outside of the scope of these written warranty terms may incur repair, labor, and shipping fees charged to the customer.

Customer is hereby notified that operation of the equipment during daylight or under excessive light conditions may permanently damage the image intensifier tube.  While all TNV and NGI systems are auto-gated, they are not able to withstand exposure to constant light including, but not limited to, light sources, weapon sights, laser radiation.  Auto-gated Image Intensifier Tubes are designed to stand up to nighttime battlefield light conditions, but prolonged exposure to any light source will still cause damage.
