Night Fighter Training FAQs

Who can attend training? We welcome all US Citizens to participate in our training.

For Nightfighter 101 and 201, we require the signed application and waivers (provided at the time of payment), a copy of your ID, and either a copy of your CCW or background check.

For the Try Before You Buy, we require the signed application and waivers (provided at the time of payment) and a copy of your ID.

I am a Green Card holder or permanent resident; can I attend training with TNVC?  Currently, TNVC elects to train US Citizens only.

What is your refund and/or cancellation policy for your courses? TNVC, Inc. will charge credit cards for the full amount of course tuition at the time of enrollment. If you cancel your enrollment in any TNVC training course and notify TNVC, Inc. in writing of that cancelation, TNVC will refund your tuition per the below schedule:

Can I move my class from one to date or location to another? If you need to swap for another class date/location, please reach out to [email protected].  If there are seats available, we will do our best to accommodate your request.  We will offer one swap for free (if it is outside our 3-week cancellation window).  Any additional changes from one class to another will incur a $50 administrative fee.  Any class swaps within the 3-week cancellation window will incur the same fee as the cancellation policy states above, regardless of number of requests for changes.

How quickly must I return the application and other supporting documentation?  We require that all documents related to the class be submitted to later than 3 weeks prior to the start of the class.  If paperwork is not submitted by that deadline, students risk disenrollment and refund of their tuition so that we can get other students into the class.

Can I use my .22 AR for these classes?  We highly recommend not using a .22 carbine for the course.  They are not reliable enough for the class; use them for practice after you have conducted the training.

When do you send out your detailed welcome letter?  The welcome letter with detailed course and location specific information is sent the weekend prior to the training class.

I don’t have a CCW, and need a background check, what should I do?  First, your local law enforcement agency should offer that service for you at a minimal cost.  If they cannot meet your timeline, we accept background checks from most online companies that offer the investigation.

Why do I need a CCW or background check to attend training?  This ensures that you are legally able to possess firearms to the best of your (and our) knowledge.

I have facilities and I am interested in hosting a class or event; who do I reach out to?  We are always looking for new venues for our courses.  Please email [email protected] and we will let you know our requirements for hosting classes and progress from there.

What are the pre-requisites to attend Nightfighter 101? In accordance with ITAR Regulations and TNVC Policy, ONLY U.S. Citizens will be accepted to participate in TNVC courses. This is a physical class and students are encouraged to be in good physical condition. Students must have basic tactical weapons handling skills prior to the class. As such, students are required to produce proof of successful completion of tactical carbine and pistol classes, or previous military or law enforcement training prior to this course. I need training to meet the pre-requisites, where can I find that?  Most of our host ranges offer training from other reputable trainers.  Reach out to those ranges and ask them about other training opportunities.  Additionally, if you are having trouble finding appropriate training, you can email our training staff ([email protected]) and we will help you find something.

What kind of training should I look for to meet the pre-requisites?  We like to see Nightfighter 101 students complete a 2-3 day tactical carbine course that covers weapon manipulations, safety, marksmanship fundamentals, and a gunfighting/tactical mindset.

Why do you require previous training for a 101-level class? We require this previous training so that when the dark monster strikes (it is a real thing—trust us), students are first of all, safe, and confident in the handling, manipulating, and employment of their weapons.  We consistently see even the most experienced shooters struggle to accomplish the most basic tasks in low or no light situations.

I have signed up for the class, and I want to buy some gear before I show up, what should I buy?  At TNVC, we want you to use what you have for the class.  We will show you how to get the most out of your existing gear, and what changes you could possibly make after the class.  This allows the customer to spend their money when they can make an informed decision.  The top pieces of gear we recommend purchasing before the class are:

NVG-height optic mount for your carbine

A quality 2-point sling

A red dot for your handgun

A duty holster with retention

 

I have a PVS14, will this be okay for the class?  YES!  In fact, some of our cadre run that same goggle. You will be just fine!

I don’t have any night vision gear, but I want to come to class.  Do you offer rental gear?  We do!  We have a variety of packages available for classes.  Quantities are limited for each class.  And a proportional percentage of your rental can apply to your purchases at TNVC (goggle percentage towards goggles, etc.).

What time does training start and end for Nightfighter 101?  We generally start our training around 3pm (1500) on night 1 and complete the course about 2am (0200) on night 2.  Typically, we go about 3pm to 2am on night 1, and 4pm to 2am on night 2.  Most classes start on Saturday and end on Sunday night / Monday morning.

Can I bring a friend to watch the training or look through goggles?  No.  For safety and insurance reasons, we cannot have non-enrolled personnel on the range any time we are conducting training.  Plus, they would not see much anyways!  If they want to meet you during a scheduled lunch break, that is okay.  But they must depart the area before we continue training.

What are the pre-requisites to attend Nightfighter 201?  In accordance with ITAR Regulations, only U.S. Citizens will be accepted to participate in TNVC courses.

Vetted and verified graduates of Nightfighter 101 or comparable approved Night Vision courses (e.g., Greenline Tactical), and/or military/LE experience with night vision may enroll in Nightfighter 201. Do I need to provide my own NLTA (Non-Lethal Training Ammunition) equipment for this class?  No.  We provide the bolts, and ammunition will be available for purchase at the class.  If you have your own NLTA (or similar) equipment and ammunition, you are welcome to use it.

Do I need protective gear since NLTA (Non-Lethal Training Ammunition) is involved?  All our work with NLTA (Non-Lethal Training Ammunition) is force-on-target—normal range safety gear is required, but we will not be intentionally shooting at each other with NLTA ammunition.

What rifles/gear will not work with NLTA (Non-Lethal Training Ammunition)?  Our NLTA requires a 5.56mm or .233 caliber AR-style rifle.  Piston guns can be problematic with the NLTA ammunition.  Additionally, if you have a LAW-style folder on your rifle, it will not work correctly with the bolt.

What time does training start?  When does it finish? We generally start our training around 3pm (1500) on night 1 and complete the course about 2am (0200) on night 2/3.  Typically, we go about 3pm to 2am on night 1, and 4pm to 2am on night 2/3.  Most classes start on Friday and end on Sunday night / Monday morning.

Who can attend training?  We welcome all US Citizens to participate in our training. At the time of registration, we will ask for photo ID and the completion of the application and waivers.

How long does the Try Before You Buy Last?  You can expect the event to last 6-8 hours depending on the composition of the class and capabilities of the hosts.

Should I bring my own gear?  What can I bring?  We will provide all night vision goggles, mounts, lasers, weapons, and helmets.  You are welcome to bring your own helmet if you would like to see how it would work with the gear.

Will we shoot at the event? No, there is no shooting at the Try Before You Buy – there will be empty weapons present so customers can see optics and lasers.

What time does the event start?  Expect the event to start about 4pm (location dependent).

Can I buy gear onsite?  No, currently we are not providing that option.

ALLIANCE, OH

Where can I fly into for training in Alliance, OH?  Most major airlines fly into Cleveland (CLE) which is about 90 minutes away.  Canton-Akron (CAK) is much closer (about 30 min) but has limited service from major airlines.

Where should I stay in Alliance?  We recommend two places in Alliance: the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn. Both are about the same distance from the range, and they both offer discounts if you call their front desk when you make your reservations.  Explain you are coming into town for training at the police range, and they will offer you a slight discount.  We have no financial interest in either location.

Where is the range?  We are hosted for our classes by the Alliance Police (https://alliancepolicetraining.com/).  The range is located outside of town at the Wastewater Treatment Site.  About a 10-minute drive from either hotel.

Are there range fees for this location?  Yes, the Alliance Police Department collects $25 per student, per day, for training at this location.

 

GREAT FALLS, MT

Where can I fly into for training in Great Falls, MT?  Great Falls has a small regional airport (GTF) that several major airlines service.

Where should I stay in Great Falls?  The town has most major hotel chains, and they are all about the same distance to the classroom and range locations.

Where are the training locations?  We conduct classroom training in one location and from there head to the range on the north side of town.  We will put out detailed information in our welcome letter for final locations.

Are there range fees for this location?  No.  At this time, we are generously hosted by the local law enforcement agencies.

 

BOULDER CITY, NV

Where can I fly into for training in Boulder City?  Las Vegas (LAS) is the closest and easiest airport to fly into for this class.  It is about 30 minutes from the airport to the range.

Where should I stay for this class?  If you just need a room with no casino attached, there’s a Best Western in Boulder City which puts you 10 minutes from the range. There is also the Railroad Pass Casino (more of a truck stop) which puts you 5 minutes from the range. If they want something with a little better accommodation, we recommend the Green Valley Ranch Casino (20 minutes from the range) or the Sunset Station Casino (15 minutes from the range).  We do not have any financial interest in any of these locations—they are recommendations from the hosts.

Where does the training occur?  We run our course at Pro Gun Vegas (https://progunvegas.com/).

Are there any range fees for this location?  No, the hosts do not charge range fees for this class.

 

GRANDFIELD, OK

Where can I fly into for training in Grandfield, OK?  You have a couple of options for airports to get you into this area.  You can fly into the Dallas (DFW or DAL) airports which will put you about 2.5 hours away from the training location.  Oklahoma City (OKC) is about 90 minutes away.  Lawton, OK (LAW) is about 30 minutes away and has limited service and Wichita Falls, TX (SPS) with limited service is about 20 minutes away.

Where should I stay for this class?  We recommend that you stay at the facilities offered by BadLands Tactical.  The closest hotels are in Lawton or Wichita Falls, and the facilities offered by the host are reasonable and bring a social aspect to the class.  We stay there for convenience and student interaction.  Plus, the hosts go out f their way to make your stay as good as it can be.  Prior to class, a detail email will be sent to students with lodging information.  We do not have any financial interest in lodging at this location.

Where does the training take place?  Badlands Tactical (https://badlandstactical.org/) hosts our classes.  We conduct classroom training at the Badlands Tactical classroom, and then drive about 10 minutes outside of town for the range portion.

Are there any range fees for this location?  No, BadLands does not charge students range fees for our classes.

 

Clinton, SC 

Where can I fly into for training in Laurens, SC? Greenville, SC (GSP) is about 35 minutes away and Columbia, SC (CAE) is about 50 minutes away. Both are serviced by several major airlines.

Where should I stay for this class? There are a couple of hotels around the range near I-26 (5 to 10 minutes away). The hosts offer lodging on site that is clean, modern, and convenient. The hosts offer a condo-style building, hunting lodge-style lodging, and 2-man rooms. Additionally, there are a limited number of RV/camper hookups and tent camping available too. As the class gets closer, we will send out information about lodging and how to register for it.

Where does the training occur?  Onsite, at The Clinton House Plantation (https://clintonhouse.com) for both the classroom and range portion.

Are there any range fees for this location?  No, The host does not charge students for this class.

 

Jackson, NE

Where can I fly into for training in Jackson, NE? Sioux City, Iowa (SUX) is the closest regional airport to the range. They are serviced by United Airlines. Otherwise, Omaha (OMA) would be the next major hub, serviced by most major airlines, and about 90 minutes away.

Where should I stay for this class? There are most major hotel chains available in Sioux City, IA, about 20 minutes away from the range. We are also working with them on lodging on site—if this becomes available for students we will email the class directly and let them know about options and pricing.

Where does the training occur? Onsite, at Rev-Tac (https://www.rev-tac.com/) for both the classroom and range portion.

Are there any range fees for this location? No, the host does not charge students for this class.

Why does TNVC offer Law Enforcement-only courses?  We strongly encourage our Law Enforcement professionals to attend our open enroll courses for several reasons: they get exposure to non-LE shooters, all the information in the course is common for the audience, and the diversity of the student base makes for excellent discussion and learning points in the class.  However, there are times that a Law Enforcement only class works well: when the class can occur during the duty week (can reduce agency costs, officer time off, etc.) and for locations where open enrollment classes cannot occur (select police ranges, etc.).

What is the difference between an open enrollment Night Fighter 101 and an LE-only Night Fighter 101?  There is no difference between the core topics, drills, and applications that we do in the open enrollment Night Fighter 101.  In the LE-only course, we will discuss in the lecture some LE-specific topics such as funding/resourcing equipment, establishing agency policies, establishing an agency training program, and other relevant topics.  Otherwise, we are doing the same thing in any other Night Fighter 101 class we offer; we just don’t want to have open enrollment students lose interest with some LE-oriented topics and discussion.

When and where will LE-Only Night Fighter classes be offered?  We are open to training in various locations and venues.  We will announce locations as we establish classes and hosts.  If you are interested in hosting an LE-only course, please email [email protected] and we will discuss opportunities.

What are the requirements for hosting an LE-Only Night Fighter course?  We ask for host assessment of the potential student base/interest and getting the word out to help fill the seats.  We will also advertise the course to get additional interest.  For the venue, our requirements are the same as any other Night Fighter 101 class we teach:

• Ability to shoot in low and no light conditions for extended periods of time
• 3m to 50m (100m preferred) flat range distances
• Minimum 8 lanes for rifle and pistol use
• Target stands
• Pistol and rifle rated steel targets
• Minimum four VTAC-style barriers
• Classroom with seating for 20 personnel, tables, chairs, power, and audio-visual capabilities
• Structure for movement dry fire/movement use (can be shoothouse, empty large building, etc.)

Who can attend an LE-only Night Fighter course?  We welcome any currently serving and credentialed local, state, or federal Law Enforcement professional to these courses.

How do I sign up for an LE-only Night Fighter course?  If you are interested in attending an LE-only course, please email [email protected] from your official/duty email address.  We will then verify your LE status and send you a link to register for the class.

I see a LE-only class in my area, but I am not a police officer, can I still attend?  At this time, the LE-only classes are restricted to currently serving Law Enforcement Officers.

I am a LEO, but my agency will not pay for the training, but I can/will pay for the class.  Will that work?  Yes!  Tuition payment for the LE-only classes can be through either the agency or the individual.

I am not issued night vision equipment from my  agency.   Is rental gear available?  Yes.   TNVC has a limited number of complete systems (helmet, mount, NVD, laser) available for rent.  Please mention that you will need rental gear when you register.
